The Leveler. Balance days carry even, steady qi — neither rising nor falling. The classics recommend them for routine work, repairs, and maintenance; modern practitioners favor them for scheduled procedures like C-sections, where steady predictability matters more than dramatic fortune (always within the window your doctor sets).

You are a cultural interpreter of the Chinese Tung Shing (通勝, Chinese Almanac), working in the tradition of the imperial 1739 Qianlong Xie Ji Bian Fang Shu (協紀辨方書). ## Today's Almanac Data (pre-computed by the 12Zodiacs engine — treat as ground truth) - Date: Friday, August 2, 2024 - Lunar date: 甲辰年 六月廿八 - Day Pillar / Ri Zhu (日柱): 戊戌 (Wu Xu) · NaYin: 平地木 (Wood of the Plain) - Day Officer / Zhi Shen (值神): Balance (平) - Belt: 黃道 Yellow Belt — auspicious (青龙) - Clash / Chong Sha (冲煞): clashes with Dragon; unlucky for Dragon-born people. Evil direction (Sha): North - Auspicious for / Yi (宜): sacrifice & ancestor worship 祭祀 · tidying & sweeping 扫舍, bathing & haircut-free grooming 沐浴 · study, planning & quiet routines 修书 - Avoid / Ji (忌): major ceremonies, all major undertakings (veto day) - Key Spirits / Shen Sha (神煞): vetoes: Year Break (岁破); day auspicious spirits (日家吉神): 四相, 不将, 要安, 青龙; day caution spirits (日家凶煞): 河魁, 死神, 月煞, 月虚, 土符; salvageable Yellow Belt hours: Yin Hour, Chen Hour, Si Hour, Shen Hour, You Hour, Hai Hour - Solar term context (节气): 大暑后11天 ## User's Situation - Birth year: [YOUR BIRTH YEAR] - Chinese zodiac animal: [YOUR ZODIAC ANIMAL] - Event you are planning: [e.g. wedding / signing a contract / moving house / launching a new product / buying a car] ## Your Task 1. Interpret today STRICTLY from the data above. Do NOT calculate or estimate any calendar data yourself (no lunar conversion, no GanZhi, no solar terms). If you cite any date, officer, or spirit, quote it verbatim from above — never generate almanac values that were not provided. 2. If the data above seems insufficient for a question, say so directly instead of guessing. 3. Personalize the reading for the user's event. If the zodiac field was left blank, skip the zodiac-clash personalization rather than assuming one. 4. Use only the Chinese Tung Shing framework. Do not mix in Western astrology, tarot, or horoscope systems. 5. Answer in modern, professional English. Keep Chinese terms with pinyin, e.g. Zhi Shen (值神), Yi (宜), Ji (忌). 6. Today's Reading — Why This Day Feels the Way It Does
On this specific day the pillar Wu Xu (戊戌) places it under the Balance (平) Officer — an even, steady day — routine work flows smoothly, negotiations find middle ground, and nothing dramatic is likely to unfold. The day rides the Qing Long (Azure Dragon) (青龙) — one of the twelve Yellow Belt deities whose influence is considered broadly auspicious. Important: a Tier-1 veto condition is active today — the engine has disqualified all major undertakings regardless of surface-level signs.
The NaYin voice of the pillar is 平地木 Wood of the Plain, and the day's protective geometry clashes the Dragon — born in years like 2000, 2012, 2024 — who should defer bold joint moves until the window passes. Meanwhile Rabbit-born visitors find the day quietly cooperative: the Six Harmony channel is open for negotiation, alliances and reconciliation.
Read together with the hour table above, the practical takeaway: anchor commitments in the Yellow Belt hours, let the Black Belt hours carry routine work, and treat any veto flag as the final word — exactly as the 1739 Xie Ji Bian Fang Shu arbitrates it.
What Is the Tung Shing (通勝)?
The Tung Shing — also written Tong Sheng or Tung Shu (通書), and known in English as the Chinese Almanac, Yellow Calendar, or Imperial Calendar (皇曆) — is the traditional Chinese almanac that families have consulted for over a thousand years to pick auspicious dates for weddings, moves, business openings, and every major undertaking.
The name carries a story: the almanac was originally called Tong Shu (通書, "the all-encompassing book"), but in Cantonese that sounds uncomfortably close to "all lost" (輸). Guangdong publishers flipped the unlucky homophone to Tung Shing (通勝, "all victories") — the reason overseas Chinese families, who grew up with Hong Kong-printed editions, still say Tung Shing today while Mandarin speakers say Tong Shu.
Its lineage is imperial: dating back to oracle-bone divination of the Shang dynasty (c. 1250 BCE) and codified under Qing emperor Qianlong in the 1739 compendium Xie Ji Bian Fang Shu (協紀辨方書), the almanac maps each day onto the twelve Day Officers (建除十二神), the Yellow and Black Belt deities (黃道/黑道), and a four-tier arbitration of auspicious and inauspicious spirits — the exact canon our engine implements with NASA-grade JPL ephemeris astronomy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Tung Shing today — is today a good day?
No — Friday, August 2, 2024 carries a Tier-1 veto (Year Break, Month Break, Four Departures or a Yang Gong taboo day): the 1739 imperial canon disqualifies major undertakings today regardless of other indicators. Routine, low-stakes matters are fine. The full four-tier arbitration runs in the verdict banner at the top of this page.
What are Tung Shing's lucky hours today?
Today's Yellow-Belt (auspicious) double-hours include 03:00-04:59, 07:00-08:59, 09:00-10:59, 15:00-16:59. The complete twelve-hour table above marks every window Yellow (favorable) or Black (caution) with its own GanZhi pillar.
What is today's date in the Tung Shing calendar?
Friday, August 2, 2024 is a 甲辰 year, Balance (平) Day Officer, Qing Long (Azure Dragon) (青龙) — recomputed daily from the JPL DE440s ephemeris, never copied from a printed book.
Which zodiac does Tung Shing clash with today?
Today clashes with the Dragon (冲辰), with the unlucky direction (Sha) at North. If you were born in a Dragon year, tradition advises keeping today to lighter schedules.
What is Tung Shing and how do I read it?
The Tung Shing (通勝) is the traditional Chinese almanac: for each day it gives the lunar date, the governing Day Officer (one of twelve), the deity path (Yellow Belt = auspicious windows), the activities favored and avoided, and lucky hours. This page renders all of it in English with the original Chinese terms preserved — start with the Officer badge and the Yi/avoid board, then check your birth year against the clash animal.
How accurate is this Tung Shing compared to the Hong Kong Observatory?
All 24 solar terms of 2026 verified against the Hong Kong Observatory official solar-term table: 24 of 24 match within one minute, 11 exact to the minute (Start of Spring 2026: February 4, 04:02, matching to the minute). HKO computes from HM Nautical Almanac Office / USNO data while our engine uses JPL's DE440s ephemeris; the residual spread of one minute on some terms is the ΔT Earth-rotation prediction difference between the two observatory-grade ephemerides. You can repeat the check yourself: compare any term instant on our pages against the HKO table.
Is there a Tung Shing calendar for 2026 online?
Yes — the month-by-month Tung Shing calendar at /tung-shing/calendar/ serves every month of 2026 (and any year from 1900 to 2100) in the same engine-verified format, with each date linking to its full daily reading.
