Auspicious Moving House Dates in 2026 — Chinese Almanac

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the most auspicious days for moving to a new house?

The classical ranking for moving (入宅) favors Open (开), Stable (定), and Establish (建) Day Officers — the energies of opening doors, anchoring, and laying foundations. Our engine scores every candidate date against those officers plus Yellow Belt deity hours, then removes Tier-1 veto days (breakers, Four Departures, Yang Gong). The resulting list on our moving page shows each date's lunar position, pillar, and why it qualifies.

What is a good day to move house according to feng shui in 2026?

Feng shui date selection (择日) uses the same almanac engine underneath: 2026 is a Fire Horse year, so days whose earthly branch is Rat (子) are year-breaker days and never recommended. Beyond that, the moving-specific filters above apply. Our 2026 moving calendar at /auspicious-dates/moving-house/2026/ pre-computes the full year with each date's reasoning shown.

What is the Chinese tradition when moving to a new house?

The core sequence: enter with rice and salt first (the home will always provide), boil water on the first night — the rolling kettle is 风生水起, "wind rises, water flows," symbolizing wealth bubbling up — open every window, and sleep in the home even on an air mattress, so the new home's qi bonds to its owners. In Cantonese households a pineapple is rolled across the floor (旺来, "prosperity arrives"). Our moving rituals section details the full modern-apartment version.

What to bring when you transfer to a new house feng shui?

The classical "first entry" items: rice (sustenance), salt (protection), water (wealth flow), and something living — a plant traditionally. Documents and valuables follow, furniture last. The order encodes the priority: life and abundance enter before possessions. Our first-day checklist adapts this for American apartments and dorms.

What is the luckiest date in 2026?

There is no single universal answer — "lucky" is activity-specific in the Chinese system. A premier wedding day (Complete officer, Yellow Belt) may be unsuitable for groundbreaking. Our engine computes per-activity lists: the best 2026 wedding dates, moving dates, and opening dates each have their own pages with full reasoning, all filtered through the same four-tier arbitration.

Which month is considered auspicious for housewarming in 2026?

Months around Dragon Boat through Mid-Autumn (roughly June–October 2026) offer the densest clusters of Open and Stable days, while the seventh lunar month (Ghost Month) is traditionally avoided for celebrations including housewarming banquets. The moving itself can still be scheduled then if needed — families who observe strictly simply hold the housewarming dinner a month later.

What should I avoid when moving house?

Three classical cautions our engine enforces: never move on a Break (破) or Danger (危) day, avoid days where the date's branch clashes your birth-year animal, and don't enter the new home empty-handed. The first two are computed automatically in our date lists; the third is on you — and the rice is cheap.

Why do two Chinese almanac websites show different lucky dates?

Because an auspicious date is an arbitration verdict, not a fact recorded in one master book. Five decisions separate the lists: whether the calendar is transcribed from a printed edition or computed astronomically, how the 12 Day Officers reset at solar terms (calendar-day switching versus minute-level), which hard vetoes are enforced (Year Breaker, Month Breaker, Four Departures, Yang Gong taboos), whether Black Belt days are promoted as lucky, and which edition the site follows. The 12Zodiacs engine computes the calendar from the JPL DE440s ephemeris, switches terms at the exact minute, enforces every imperial veto, and follows the Qing imperial canon — all documented in the public methodology page.
